seattle part 2

First up, FOOD!!!

Cooking for the boyfriend while he had his exams:
pasta with tomato sauce

curry chicken!

And Tris cooked chicken rice after his exams:

as you can tell, the chicken came out in two colours because they were two different steams and water went into the one which turned out whiter.

Met up with Tris' church mentor and wife for a Greek lunch:

The next day, we went to Uni of Washington for a walk (not exactly the most romantic walk, but it was nice, cool and sweet)

The boyfriend then went for a much needed haircut, and then we had Mexican fajitas for dinner:

He looks like a primary school prefect now with his neat fringe and back.

We went shopping at downtown seattle today! The boyfriend knows me so well because the first place he brought me to was the Paragon of downtown Seattle, Pacific Place, which had Tiffany's, bebe, Coach, Victoria's Secret, BCBG, WhiteHouse BlackMarket, etc. Victoria's Secret was pretty disappointing probably because I expected the lingerie to look hotter but failed to realise that my image of VS was dominated by the hot VS angels in the VS fashion shows and website. Unfortunately, the bras look like any normal Triumph or La Senza bras on the hangers in the boutique. The boyfriend pointed out that the reason why VS sold was because of the hot sexy models. But off the models, the bras are nothing. Bought one Christmas edition set nonetheless. A pretty green with little red cherries. :)

what? you expected me to show you the bra??? HAHAHA... I think there is still that something about Victoria's Secret. Even though the bras may look normal, it's the teeny thought of wearing what Gisele Bundchen, Alessandro Ambrosio, Adrianna Lima and Karolina Kurkova wears that keeps women feeling good about themselves. Now that I know my size (which is different because it's US sizing), I think I will start buying them online. :D

The other boutiques like bebe and BCBG had pretty things too. I didn't get anything, but I can't wait to go to the factory outlets!!! :D:D:D I am so disappointed with Coach because the bags are now made in CHINA. What the hell right??? It's a freaking American luxury brand and it's made in China? No offence to the PRC, it's just that if a brand is famous and reputable because of where it is made in (which reminds me of IP - geographical indications - which of course doesn't directly apply here because clothes are not like wine), it should stay that way right? I can't imagine the day LV moves its factory to China (or has it already?). I will so boycott LV, like I am boycotting Coach. Of course there is the argument about brand equity, in that people trust the brand, hence wherever they move their factory, people will still buy their stuff because the QC is trusted. But still... we are willing to pay for the quality, so why can't you just pay more for labour and give us what we want? Moving your factory to China cheapens your luxury product, regardless of brand equity. Again, no offence to the PRC. I have my roots there.

Watched The Golden Compass, which really isn't as fantastic as the book. The movies are always so disappointing when you have already read the book but never fails to keep you in awe if you haven't read the book. I wonder if it's a pity to have read the book and not be impressed with the movie or not read the book and love the movie. I loved Harry Potter as well as LOTR (the movies) because I didn't read the books first. But after The Golden Compass, I concluded that I would rather have read the book because in writing, you can conjure up your own images of Svalbard, Iorek Brynison and Lyra and be happy with your own little fantasy world.

Ok, off to LA tomorrow! :)

seattle

Hullo I am in Seattle! :)

Nothing much yet coz we haven't gone to town since Tris is mugging for his exams which end next week. Anyway, photos of the apartment and food:

Just touched down! I couldn't recognise him la!!! He was right in front of me but I called him to find out where he was. :( Doesn't he look rounder? :D:D:D Yay!!!

A real bachelor's pad:

And then a girl comes in to change everything.
First, she pushes away his things to create an area at the bathroom sink for herself:

Then she makes him vacuum his room:

And she cooks for him! :}

Butter chicken for Friday's dinner:

Leaving him erm... speechless :p

And salmon teriyaki with baked potato for Saturday's lunch:

For dinner, we went to Little Thai, a Thai restaurant which serves awesome tomyam, even better than anything you can find in Singapore. The lady boss(?) is a Thai, so I guess she was pretty happy when we asked for the tomyam to be spicier and Tris ordered some stuff and thanked her in Thai.

kao niao ma muang (mango glutinous rice)!!! :D:D:D yum yum!!!

We also went to the University Book Store, which is as big as Borders, unlike our pathetic NUS co-op. I also got to try Tully's Coffee, which is supposedly better than Starbucks, but I prefer Starbucks probably coz I am too used to their mocha. There is a Starbucks at almost every street, since Starbucks is from Seattle.

So it's all just food for now... After his exams, we are going to town and then flying off to LA next weekend! Tune in! :)

lipstick jungle

Think Gossip Girl is too college-girl and elitist for you? Miss Sex and the City? There is a new show coming up! Based on another book by Candace Bushnell, author of Sex and the City, a new series will be airing in America in January 2008!

Lipstick Jungle weaves the stories of the lives of three mature and rich women who are on The New York Post's list of New York's 50 Most Powerful Women. Brooke Shields stars as Wendy Healy, president of Parador Pictures, a movie company. Lindsay Price is Victory Ford, the hot and sexy fashion designer and Kim Raver plays Nico O'Neilly, the glamorous editor of the bestselling magazine, Bonfire.

It is more catered to the mature female audience but tugs at the heartstrings more than Sex and the City because they don’t just talk about sex, but also about the difficulties they face with the power and responsibilities they have (with great power comes great responsibilities right?).

Wendy (yay my namesake! :D), as president of the largest movie company in the US, has so many responsibilities that she has barely enough time to spend with her kids and husband (who isn’t half as capable as her and decides to divorce her in the pilot episode).

Victory is single but has to decide whether she wants to make the most out what’s left of her youth or marry this gazillionaire who likes her but spends more time on his phone than on her.

Nico is married, but her husband doesn’t even pay attention to her, while there is a young and sexy man whom she is sexually interested in. Will she give in to temptation?

Ok a typical woman show, but how can you resist it when the clothes are so pretty and sophisticated and the sets are so glamorous? Although SATC is slightly more witty and has more entertaining sexual inneundoes, I think Lipstick Jungle has more depth.

*Disclaimer: I have only watched the first episode so my review may be flawed and I have to wait and see if the rest of the episodes are worth my time.

Of course, Gossip Girl still rules! :)

books!

My first graphic novel! :)

And the super thick grand volume of Pullman's His Dark Materials.

I love the smell of new books! :) Thank you CX and Adam for the recommendations! FYI, the books are from Kino!

But I need to finish Bently & Sherman, Ling Bing and Zhang Mo before starting on Gaiman and Pullman. :( Can't wait for the exams to end..
