movie week

Bruno is an eight-year-old German boy who leads a very comfortable life in Berlin during WWII. His father is a high ranking Nazi officer, who is posted to the nearby concentration camp as its commander. Things change when the family has to move due to his father’s new post. In his innocence, Bruno sees the nearby concentration camp as a ‘farm’ and wonders why its inhabitants are always wearing striped pajamas. Eventually Bruno becomes friends with a Jewish boy his own age who lives on the other side of the fence.

This is a highly depressing show as it depicts children's innocence and fierce loyalty to each other despite the harsh realities of life. I am so grateful to Waihan for introducing it to me! Thanks babe!

I am NOT a fan of graphic novels but this isn't too bad. It's super geek but at least I still get it. Apparently the geeks don't really like it. The boyfriend and khel say that it didn't do the novel justice. Oh well... I am just thankful I didn't fall asleep during the show.

But of course, I am extremely excited about an upcoming movie...

I didn't know Isla Fisher is married to Sacha Baron Cohen, the guy who acted as Ali G and Borat (they are the same person???)!!!

Regardless, I am still watching Confessions of a Shopaholic! :)

Anyway, the guys and I had dinner at Botak Jones which recently (?) opened at the Youth Park opposite Orchard Cine.

YUMMY!

And how can I forget my new pair of Fabio Rusconi's.

Of course, I will never forget the person I plan to walk the rest of my life with. Our feet look so good together! :)

top 10 ballerina flats

Hello I am back! I am finally done with my exams and that marks the end of my education in NUS Law School. Surprisingly, I still don't feel emo and sad enough to leave, probably because I totally enjoyed my 4 years there, and there is nothing to regret about it. Yes of course, I could have studied harder and did better, but there is no reason for me to look back and sigh... Because NUS Law School truly gave me everything that I needed. My degree, a good education, great teachers, valuable practical experience, wonderful friends, and most importantly, my amazing bf. :) For those friends who are not done with the exams, ALL THE BEST!!! It's going to be over soon and a month (more than that for my year 2/3 friends) of well-deserved break is waiting for you! :) Meanwhile, I decided to list my top 10 ballerina flats and tell you more about my shoes again to entertain those who are still mugging or just plain bored, like me. :)

Generally, I adore ballet flats because they are very comfortable and do not affect my posture. Ballet flats are good when going out with guys shorter than me, or walking long distances. It also gives a more casual look to my attire, so that I don't look overdressed for the occasion. I love flats from URS, Prada and Ferragamo. Whenever I go into these shops, I often come out with more than one pair of ballets. Sometimes, I love the design so much that I would buy two pairs of different colours. :p Anyway, here's presenting my top 10 most favourites! :)

10. URS black suede with cream bow

This has to be my first pair of URS shoes in my life. I bought them when I was in JC I think. It has served me very well for more than 5 years, until one rainy day at Sheares Hall. The suede material and the soles were thoroughly drenched. So now it's just looking pretty in my cabinet. It's still wearable though.

9. URS pink star buckle

Ok then this was my second pair. As you can tell from the design of the inner sole, it's of the same season as the black pair above. Very comfortable.

8. Ferragamo black loafers

These aren't really ballets. They are more like loafers. I bought this in two colours, black and mocha. Super comfortable albeit a little too manly.

7. Charles & Keith pink shiny

I love the pink!!! It's so princessy pretty. hahaha.. I think shellen has this in silver. But this was the last pair of Charles & Keith flats I bought. Their flats don't really suit my feet shape because the bone sticking out below my big toe feels very painful everytime I wear their flats. Their heels are perfectly fine though. Weird...

6. URS silver bow

Silver is in this season! Together with white, bright yellow, pink and green of course. But yes, silver is in fashion and if you don't fancy getting a silver bag because it's too overly shiny, why not get silver flats? They complement everything. From white to black. Of course, don't wear silver flats with silver clothes. You will look like a piece of aluminium foil. Try wearing silver flats with white or grey. :) Plus you can keep the silver shoes for fall/winter and match them with black!

5. URS black shiny bow

You can't really see the shine in this photo, but it's basically a simple black shiny shoe with a bow in front (I love bows in front of shoes as you can tell). Simple and classy.

4. Ferragamo dark grey

Bow again!!! :):):) I heart this pair of shoes because it's so classy yet it can be worn both day and night! This was the pair of shoes which got cx and I talking, and subsequently becoming friends in year one. hahahaha... She saw my shoes and said, "oh my gosh your shoes are damn nice, can I try?" when we didn't even know each other. So yes, thanks to this pair of shoes, I met a wonderful friend in law sch. :)

3. URS black with matte gold chain

My most recent purchase. It looks super comfortable, and it is! I shall wear this to Korea next week! :)

2. Prada pink with orange tip and bow

I fell in love at first sight with this pair of shoes in Venice coz it's PINK!!! So pwetty!!! Love it so so much... :) The first time I wore this out was when I went to SPH with lerk to settle some law iv charity stuff. And then it freaking RAINED!!! So when lerk dropped me off at the mrt station, I ran out of the car barefooted and held onto my shoes tightly. When I reached the shelter, I took out tissue paper and dabbed off the wet spots on the shoes, wiped my feet dry and wore the shoes back on. HAHAHA!!!

1. Prada black loafers

Again, this is a pair of loafers but who cares. I only have three pairs of loafers so I shall give this pair an honourable mention here because it has been with me since JC and has travelled the world with me. It survived hongkong, japan, china, italy and switzerland. That's why I only wear it when I go travelling. :) Kinda manly too... But it really really serves my purpose. ZERO blisters. Seriously if you need any pair of comfortable leather shoes to travel, Prada is where you should go. :)

Ok off to dinner! All the best for those who are still having their exams, and for those who are done, have fun and don't mock at those who are not done! :) Love you guys!!!

wendy's top 10 pumps

I am bored, so I shall introduce you to my shoe cabinet!!! I currently have 65 pairs of shoes (no I have not broken the 100 mark), and more than half of them are heels. I love pumps (which are covered heels) the most because they can be worn formally and informally, plus they come in very classic black (my favourite) as well as interesting/unique statement pieces. I love heels, even though I am 1.7m tall, because they make my legs look slimmer and I love towering over everyone in the crowd. :) And covered shoes are good coz there is no need to do pedicures all the time! My favourite brands are Charles & Keith and Salvatore Ferragamo.

First up, this is the latest photo of my shoe cabinet:

This is my personal cabinet. My mum has her own cabinet outside, while my sis has her own cabinet in her matrimonial home (omg fam law). My dad only has 5 pairs of shoes. :D

Without further ado, may I present you my top 10 pumps! :)

10. White Mock Snakeskin - Charles & Keith

I fell in love at first sight with this. It reminded me of the Jimmy Choo Watersnakeskin Pumps of Fall/Winter 2007 so I just had to buy it. It's only at number 10 because I haven't worn it yet so I haven't tested its "blisterity" (self-coined word).

9. Black Mock Croc - Charles & Keith

As I mentioned, I love classic blacks. This is a replacement for a pair of Aldo black pumps which served me very well for 2 years but recently went to Shoe Heaven. I hope this does the same. Similarly, this is only at number 9 because I bought this at the same time as number 10.

8. Brown Suede - Tinkerbell

I bought this at a steal - $19. And they are surprisingly comfortable. I can climb up the BTC slope without feeling any pain. :)

7. Gold Mock Croc - Mugigae

I found this in a quaint Korean shop in Bugis Junction, which sadly, no longer stocks shoes. :( My mother thought that it was damn songstress, but then realised that it looks amazing with black, even in the day.

6. Red Ruched Patent - Aldo

I bought this a week after buying its black sister (the one which went to Shoe Heaven) because it was super comfortable.

5. Matte Gold/Brown - Novo

It's damn bloody high, but it looks amazing with jeans. Plus I actually climbed up Fort Canning with this to watch A Midsummer Night's Dream last year. Another pair which has served me well. Kowtow when you next see them.

4. White Patent Mary Janes - Charles & Keith

I love white with gold. In fact, I love gold stuff. And it's so difficult to find cheap things with gold buckles/chains without them looking cheap. hahaha... These too, pass the BTC slope test with flying colours.

3. Light Grey Faron - Ferragamo

Ooh I love this pair!!! It's so sweet because of its light colour yet sensual because of its transparent lining around the feet.

2. Black Vara - Ferragamo

Who can resist this pair of heels, the classic, signature design of Salvatore Ferragamo, which gets both girls and women crazy.

1. BLACK BRILLIANT - FERRAGAMO

Now this trumps the Vara simply because the heels are higher and it is made of nappa calf leather, which means it's the leather made from unsplit kid (baby) lamb skin, which explains its softness and durability. I heart this so so much. :)

So that’s it for my pumps post. I shall write more about my other pairs of shoes when I am bored again.

By the way, I did not take photos of my shoes just for this post. I catalogue my shoes. :)

Happy Easter! :)

what kind of shoe am I?

You Are Big Black Boots!

You can be best described as: attitude
You've got lots of it - and you love to give it
A guy has to be pretty gusty to hit on you
But if he's your type, you'll warm up... a little

Hur hur.. Tris you gutsy? :p I wonder what the other options are. Girls, take the quiz and tell me! :)

tinkerbell and shrek 3

Tinkerbell (the shoe shop which has two outlets in Marina Square, one near the cinema and the other at the Marina entrance from Suntec) is having a HUGE sale. $19.90 for any pair of shoes and $49.90 for any 3 pairs. Needlessly to say, I went ballistic and tried on almost every pair of shoes there before deciding on the 3 pairs which had the privilege to go home with me. ladeeda... Another 3 pairs into Wendy's beloved shoe cabinet. :) Girls please do go check out Tinkerbell. Their pumps are quite comfortable and I mean seriously, $50 for any 3 pairs storewide??? Get out of town! :p

Watched Shrek 3. It was damn funny! I personally enjoyed the part where pinocchio was trying not to lie the most. Highly entertaining and witty. It's not easy for a part 3 to be so entertaining, so kudos to the director.

The day didn't go too smoothly because of a hiccup over dinner which was all my psychotic fault. But I am thankful that things became so much better because we talked, forgave and forgot. And we made sure that despite the few days of unhappiness whenever I pout, we never ever forget the many many days of happiness of just being together, and the many many more days of happiness to come. :)

shoes

Since I am stuck at home this weekend nursing a sore throat (residual from stuffing myself with chocolates in switzerland, then eating spicy things for 4 days in a row), I spent the weekend watching sex and the city. So what more could you ask of me than a post on one of the greatest indulgence in my life?

1. Stilettos
Stilettos are named after the stiletto dagger, and may vary in length from a few cm to 7 inches. Stilettos are thin and pointy high heels, which make a woman exude sexuality and are known for their erotic nature as they alter a woman's posture by forcing the leg to turn out, the calf muscle to stiffen (hence look more toned) and the hips to sashay. In fact, Marilyn Monroe reputedly chopped off 3/4 of an inch of the heel of her left shoe to emphasise her wiggle (see here and here).

2. Ballerina flats
Also known as flatties or ballet shoes, they are usually closed-toe and very comfortable because they are flat (duh).

3. Pumps
Pumps are also known as court shoes but have evolved into shoes of many colours, material, designs and embellishment to make them wearable "out-of-court". They have enclosed toes and sides and have either stiletto or block heels.
Roger Vivier created the highest stiletto pumps which could withstand any woman's weight because of his signature comma-shaped heel.

4. Wedges
Wedges come with triangular heels that join the sole of the shoe.

5. D'Orsay
A d'Orsay ("door-say") style pump has sides that are cut away, revealing the arch of the foot. D'Orsay can be either opened or closed toe.

6. Mary Janes
Nope, not Spiderman's lover, but traditional MJs have short, rounded toe box and are flat. Modern MJs vary from flat to heeled shoes, but what makes an MJ an MJ is the strap that runs across the front of the foot. It was the famous shoemaker Manolo Blahnik who recreated the MJ with a pointed toe box and made the Mary Janes a classic Manolo Blahnik design.

7. Slingbacks
Slingbacks can be either open or closed toe shoes. A pair of slingbacks has a back strap that connects the side of the shoe to wrap around the heel.

8. Kitten heels
Kitten (or kitty) heels are shoes with thin and low heels.

9. Mules
Mules are backless shoes with closed toes.

Prada brocade mules

10. Platforms
Platforms have very thick soles at the front. They were the trend for 'aunties' in Singapore in the 1990s and soon became a fashion boo-boo because of the degrading nature of the wearers. Platforms were made HUGE internationally thanks to the platform goddess, Vivienne Westwood, and Naomi Campbell who fell from these blue platforms in a VW 1993 Autumn/Winter fashion show:

Another absolutely sado-masochistic pair of VW platforms:

11. Ankle Straps/Ankle Wraps
Ankle straps have single or multiple straps (usually leather) which wrap around the ankle, while ankle wraps have ribbons or strings which wrap around the ankle.

12. Loafers/Moccasins
Covered, slip-on footwear which are super comfortable and very good for travelling in. Loafers are slightly different from moccasins in that moccasins are usually softer and more flexible. Otherwise, the terms are generally interchangeable.

Tod's suede driving loafers

13. Oxfords
Oxfords are leather shoes with enclosed lacing. The design of the shoe is often plain, but may include some small ornamentation or perforations.

Irregular Choice mock croc oxfords

14. Peep Toe
Literally, peep toes mean you can see your toes.

Steve Madden lalo gingham peep-toe

15. Boots
And of course, who could forget, BOOTS! Boots cover at least the foot and the ankle and sometimes extends up to the knee. Most have heels that are clearly distinguishable from the rest of the sole, even if the two are made of one piece.

Dolce & Gabbana astrakhan-and-croc boots

Ok! Hope you enjoyed your crash course of the different shoes in the world. There are definitely more but Wendy needs to take her antibiotics and then go to bed. Good night! :)
